SOCIAL GOOD CATEGORY: BEST MOBILE INNOVATION FOR EMERGING MARKETS (ASIA 2018)
BIMA was shortlisted for the Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets category in this year’s GSMA’s Asia Mobile Awards. The awards celebrate companies, products, services and individuals who undisputedly contributed to the development of Asia mobile industry. The award nomination was a joint entry between BIMA and Axiata, one of Asia’s largest telecom groups. The two companies have key partnerships in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and this award recognises the combined effort to drive insurance penetration and enabling mHealth services within the region.

The Global Mobile Awards, promoted by GSMA, are considered the Oscars of the Mobile Industry. ‘Creating a better future’ is the overarching theme for MWC18, so GSMA wants to award and recognise the companies who are dedicated to innovating for the communities which are most in need. The GSMA is committed to connecting everyone and everything to a #BetterFuture.
Innovation has fuelled the drive to ‘connect the unconnected’, bringing affordable mobile voice and data communications to people for the very first time, as well as services and initiatives that have had a proven effect on the empowerment of people, as well as their social and economic well-being.
This award recognises genuine innovation in mobile initiatives, programmes, products, apps, services and devices that are having a tangible effect on the inclusion, accessibility and vitality of emerging markets and their digital economies.
Digital Disruptor of the Year AWARD 2017
BIMA has scooped the Digital Disruptor of the Year Award at the inaugural International Data Corporation (IDC) Digital Transformation Awards in the Philippines.
The awards honour the achievements of those organisations that have successfully planned and executed the digital transformation (DX) of one or multiple areas of their business through the use of digital and disruptive technologies within Asia/Pacific.
The win highlights BIMA’s contribution to digital innovation in Asia as it harnesses mobile technology to bring affordable and accessible insurance to low-income and unbanked individuals in the Philippines.
WSJ Financial Inclusion Award 2017
BIMA has won the Wall Street Journal and Met Life Financial Inclusion Award in recognition of its role bringing insurance to the underserved at scale. BIMA was named Overall Winner and took home the People's Choice Award, receiving the most votes by the public.
The Award showcases solutions to the problems of financial access for the poor in the Asia-Pacific region. The judging criteria looked for innovative, sustainable, scalable and impactful strategies that increase access to individuals who have not had access to such programs, products and services historically.
Best Mature Stage Startup 2017
BIMA has claimed another flagship industry award, taking home the title of 'Best Mature Stage Start Up' in the global Fintech Finals 2017. The award, created by Next Money and sponsored by Visa, saw 1000s of startups from around the world compete in regional heats, with the Top 24 proceeding onto Hong Kong to battle it out in the final round. Winners were judged on the strength of their business model, scale, disruptive potential or impact, customer experience and growth opportunity.
